Astrocartography: Finding Your Place
Did you know astrology could be used to help you plan your next vacation or even where to move to next? In my Libra season post, I mentioned a new personal interest which I used astrology to help me plan. In 2023, since I’ve graduated with my master’s and am no longer in school full time, I’ve finally been blessed to travel again and have since taken multiple trips. Two of my trips were cruises which might be my favorite new way to travel! I plan to discuss my most recent cruise in full review and it’s astrological significance to me in a later post.
Astrocartography (also known as relocational or locational astrology), a useful branch of astrology, is used to give further insight into how the planets positions at the time of your birth can influence your life experiences based on your geographical location. It’s basically like having a personalized map tool that can guide you through the world, highlighting areas of importance as well as potential areas of struggle.
Many astrologers such as myself, offer Astrocartography services to help clients during the travel planning process. Sugar Tarot’s Astrocartography service includes a dynamic astrocartography chart created on astro.com, detailed report interpreting global planet lines, and lists recommended destinations based on client’s stated intention (to travel, study, or move) corroborated by astrological explanation. The astrocartography chart drawing itself will look something like this:
Very confusing and a bit intimidating upon first glance right? Let’s first break down each planet line so we can then provide key insight for interpreting their meaning in astrocartography charts effectively. Once you understand what each line means, it is much easier to read these type of charts just like learning houses to read a circular birth chart.
Planet Lines
Sun Line
The sun line in your astrocartography chart pin points areas to shine, experience personal growth, and feel a strong sense of self. I highly recommend this planet line for solar return (birthday) celebrations, if you are networking to gain clients or build connections, or if you’re growing a social media following/platform. Relocating or traveling along this line may also boost your confidence and leadership qualities. There are many opportunities for you to go viral or experience fame. Similarly, you can expect to see a lot of celebrities or possibly run into one. It’s a good place to step into the spotlight.
Moon Line
The moon line represents your emotional landscape and where you can go to have your emotional needs fulfilled. If you’re in search of a “home away from home” type of vibe, essentially this would be it. Places along your moon line bring you immense comfort and since moon represents mother in astrology, it may be connected to your family or mother in some way. You may feel more in tune with your emotions or feel sentimental here. Relocating to areas intersected by this line may intensify your feelings and emotional experiences. It’s a place where you might find a stronger connection to your intuition and a deeper understanding of your inner self. Don’t be surprised if this is the place you have profound emotional experiences to the point you never want to leave. It is common to get too comfortable near your moon line.
Mercury Line
Mercury lines emphasize areas of enhanced communication, learning, and intellectual pursuits. If you are looking for places to attend college/university, graduate school, or further your education in some way, this is the line you want to start your search for schools on. Being here will not only inspire and challenge you, but stimulate you mentally. This is the place to go to around the age of 25 in your late 20s as you mature and your frontal lobe is fully developed. These are the places that spark alternative perspectives, open/free minds, and breakthroughs. Think of experiencing many light bulb moments and getting to meet new friends that want to socialize with you on these new topics at the same time. Mercury represents communication, siblings, and our peers. You could travel or move here with a sibling, connect with your peers, and become more social. Relocating along this line can boost your ability to express yourself effectively and develop a sharper mental capacity.
Venus Line
The venus line is associated with love, relationships, and money made through creativity, art, or collaboration. Relocating to a venus line definitely will activate your love life. Not only does venus line bring romance, it brings overall enjoyment and pleasure into your life. Expect to be connected to the right people here. This can be a very exciting choice that can lead to a lot of favor and blessings. Similar to mercury, this is a great place for making solid new friends, but particularly with women since venus represents femininity. I will always recommend this line if you don’t know where to start because it’s a benefic planet you can never go wrong.
Mars line
Mars represents action, physical energy, and ambition. All things that make a perfect recipe for success. These areas are great for tapping into heightened energy, assertiveness, and ambition. If you have a goal you want to accomplish, being on your mars line can give you that extra motivation needed to go for it and get things done. This is recommended for work trips or other short lengthened spontaenous/adventurous trips. If you think you’ll need more time for a long term transformation, saturn line might be more up your alley for results made to last. This is more for short term projects or needing a quick burst of energy that will allow you to do what you need to do. Relocating here can drive you to pursue your goals more aggressively, making it an ideal spot for career or fitness driven individuals.
jupiter Line
Jupiter is the planet of expansion, good fortune, guidance. This line represents opportunities for growth, luck, and expansion. It can also represent long distance and international travel so locations along this line could perfect destinations for your first extended/long term vacation or your first non-domestic move. Expect blessings with minimal effort. You may meet mentors or role model type figures to connect with who have wisdom to share. Relocating along this line can lead to personal and professional expansion, increased optimism, life changing lessons, and a broader worldview.
Saturn Line
Saturn lines are associated with discipline, responsibility, and the establishment of solid foundations. This is where fears and limitations resurface to be addressed. You could also develop new fears or traumas remaining here for too long. It may be harder to let things go, or move past things so be sure to routinely expel what is no longer needed. Relocating here may bring challenges that help you grow, teaching you important life lessons and fostering self-discipline.
Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto Lines
These three outer generational planets have long lasting, transformative effects when intersected with your astrocartography chart. Uranus can bring sudden changes and innovation. Events that are random that occur but cannot be explained are usually Uranus type events. Neptune adds a touch of mysticism, and Pluto signifies profound transformation. I recently traveled along my Neptune line in the Bahamas and it made me extra intuitive, but extra sleepy. I took several naps which put me in a deep sleep and my dreams were very vivid and felt real. If it wasn’t for the best travel companion, my love, I probably would’ve slept my entire birthday trip. Pluto’s transformations can be very intense yet life changing so this line is to be explored with awareness and caution.
Important Tips to consider
Aspects
Pay attention to the aspects formed between planet lines and the angles they make. Conjunctions and trines typically indicate more harmonious experiences, while squares and oppositions suggest challenges and growth opportunities.
Midheaven and Ascendant Lines
The Midheaven (MC) and Ascendant (AS) lines highlight areas where you may experience significant career and personal development. These lines are crucial for understanding your life’s journey.
Transits
Keep an eye on planetary transits to your astrocartography chart. Like birth chart transits, these indicate temporary influences that can affect the way you experience a specific location.
Natal chart
When reading and interpreting this type of chart, it's good to consider where these planets are placed in your natal birth chart as well. If it’s not too confusing or overwhelming, you could even create a chart that includes both your astrocartography chart with your natal chart all in the same drawing.
Astrology is a very powerful tool for self-discovery and Astrocartography is no different. It can be useful for making informed decisions on where your next vacation trip will be or where to live. You can either learn to interpret them for yourself, or support Astrologers like myself that you trust. We’re here to make sense of what can’t otherwise be explained or lacks clarity. Whether you choose to read for yourself, or be read, these are all tools for personal growth to help you navigate the physical world with greater awareness. xoxo
