Moon Signs
In astrology, the Moon is an inner planet describing our personal world. The Moon rules our deepest emotions, feelings, intuition, nurturing style, and comfort. Your moon sign is essentially how you retreat to self-soothe. Example: Libra/Taurus moons will seek harmony & to beautify their immediate surroundings. The moon rules the sign of Cancer & the 4H also represents home (physical appearance of the house, ancestry, tradition, culture) + the mother. The sign your moon sign is in can tell you a lot about who your mother is, and how she deals with her own emotions. The house placement and aspects can give you insight into the dynamic and type of relationship the two of you may share with each other.
Think of your moon sign as the natural, unfiltered, emotional version of who you are. Your moon sign are all those inner layers, secrets, and fun facts that only your closest friends and family would know. When you hear of someone, that’s their MC or Midheaven sign. When you first meet them, that’s their rising/ascendant sign. When you become acquaintances, you know their sun sign. When you visit their home, you’re seeing their home life which is their 4H sign. When you’ve known them for years, they celebrate your birthday with you every single year, and you’ve exchanged secrets, dreams, or traumas ding ding ding we’ve reached moon sign status. It usually takes years to fully grasp and understand someone’s moon sign, but it happens as the bond increases and more intimate time is spent together. Our moon sign comes to the surface when we’re feeling our worst.

Moon in Aries
Aries moons are impulsive, direct, assertive, and private with their emotions. A lot of the time emotions like sadness, hurt, pain, etc are expressed in another way that usually deflects from their true sensitivity. Aries moons have often had to face tough situations at a young age that aided in them building a gated wall around their emotions and heart. Not to be confused, they can be huge softies if they like you. Aries moons crave independence like no other. They tend to take on their emotions extremely and need to find healthy ways to relieve stress and express them. They are more prone to emotional extremes, tantrums, breakdowns, and headaches. Aries moons can be very direct and for this reason may be too harsh in communicating effectively with other signs. Aries moons are very loyal and are essentially “ride or die” for those that they love and care about. Aries moons evolve when they learn how to truly put their happiness first and be vulnerable without feeling guilty about it.
“As a child you might’ve seen your mom as overbearing and willful but as you get older you realize she’s an assertive strong willed woman who knows how to take care of herself. She is strong, emotionally clear and direct. She wants you to express your individuality as long as you’re not harming yourself. She might’ve gotten angry when you didn’t conform to her beliefs. She might have impulsive tendencies, i.e making rash purchases, changing plans at the last minute. Her anger might’ve seemed to come out of nowhere as well. There’s a cautious approach to this relationship. You might’ve been taught to react quickly as a child which could be your primary defense mechanism.”
Moon in Taurus
Taurus moons are self aware, observant, tasteful, relaxed, and grounded. Taurus moons love for their surroundings to reflect how they want to feel inside. Being fixed earth, this moon sign can be pretty reliable with their emotions. As exalted moons, they have this unspoken maturity about them that with age brings great wisdom. Exalted planets are comfortable for the most part unless harshly afflicted so this moon sign is great at working through emotions. Theirs and the emotions of others. This moon sign would be very influential in the human services, psychology, and mental health fields because of their ability to look at emotion for what it is without extra judgment or dramatics. Emotions are not feared by Taurus moons because they recognize the power in them. To feel means you’re alive and this moon sign tries their best to fill their life with pleasant experiences. Sentiment and memory mean a lot to them so they will cherish these types of gifts or you’ll notice they save objects relevant to special moments in their life. This moon sign requires a lot of physical touch and affection like hugs and cuddles.
“There's like two different types of moms for Taurus moons. One who was extremely structured and stable. The other who was focused on material things in both cases you wouldn’t have lacked anything materially, but if your mom was extremely rigid you probably control your emotions through structure rather than actually feeling it. The latter would lead you to chasing after possessions like you tell yourself you can only process your emotions once you’ve achieved some sort of success. Your mom could have been very consistent person keeping a constant routine. She might come across as boring because she doesn’t really switch things up or spring new things on you.”
Moon in Gemini
Gemini moons are curious, meticulous, articulate, and social. Gemini placements are known for their multitasking abilities and this is a result of having many interests they want to focus on and develop all at once. This moon sign will benefit especially from verbal expression of their emotions. It helps them process them a lot easier and make sense of them. Similar to Aries moons, this moon sign can be pretty hot/cold and impulsive in their emotions. You can never really guess what a Gemini moon is truly feeling after all because their mind is constantly changing. If you ask a Gemini moon how they truly feel and they trust you, they will most likely tell you exactly how they’re feeling which may be a lot to hear or handle. They have this constant inner dialogue that is automatically specific. A vague Gemini moon is a private Gemini moon. If they ever don’t go into detail or answer something short, you’re not the person they want to hear the full story. To show them support, be a listening ear as they vent. They really appreciate those that listen to them as it comforts them, makes them feel less alone, and allows them the chance to communicate which they’re very good at!
“Your childhood could’ve been filled with lots of changes and ups and downs. Gemini moons tend to have a parent who was on and off, absent, had an addiction, a mental illness, or was just somehow erratic in a different way. This parent might be paying off some sort of karma in this life. Your mom wasn’t necessarily stable. She could’ve been moody, emotional, or just sad. Your mom tends to feel more like a sibling so you guys might share common interests, i.e tv shows, games, etc. She might regret not taking a chance or allowing herself to complete a particular goal & she’ll place it on you to fulfill her dream. Your mom doesn’t let her emotions get in the way of how she carries out business.”
Moon in Cancer
Cancer moons are emotionally sensitive, defensive, spiritually aware, and family oriented. It’s very important for Cancer moons to seek emotional balance and feel safe with who they share their feelings with. Cancer moons seek security in all of their connections. They most likely have a comfort person, place, or object that they seek emotional healing from. This moon sign is great at ensuring the comfort of their loved ones, often neglecting their own. Cancer moons like Aries moons are very loyal and die hard for those that they love and care for. They will defend you to the end of the Earth simply off of the strength of how well you treat them and your impact on their life. This moon sign being domicile has a lot of emotional energy to release which is done best creatively or artistically. Cancer moons really appreciate nights in more than most people so if you are close, try to schedule a game or movie night or cook a meal at home, which are all activities you can do at home.
“Your mom is big on comfort being the foundation of her life. She wants your home to always be your comfort. Home is where the heart is. She’s really good at discerning emotions and wants to balance out the needs of everyone. She acts as a pillar of strength for you, but you also give her the same strength. You tend to be in tune with her. She’s very adept in identifying the emotions in a situation. She may have overly babied you., but if she didn’t there’s just a strong emotional connection between you two. You might take on her emotions as your own. Your mom plays a big role in your habits and patterns you’ve established for yourself.”
Moon in Leo
Leo moons are bright, magnetic, expressive, creative, and child-like at heart. Many Leo moons have a creative passion that they’ve always enjoyed doing or some type of entertainment such as movies or tv shows that they love to watch when feeling down. Leo moons love to feel like royalty and enjoy compliments even if they’re not materialistic or as flashy as other Leo placements. Leo moons crave luxury and aesthetically pleasing experiences. Leo placements naturally attract people to public places and Leo moons are able to do the same with people’s emotions and bring them out. Leo moons are excellent to confide in because while they will be there for you, they will be able to offer you advice based on their own personal experiences. Similar to Gemini moons, Leo moons love having your undivided attention. A Leo moon will always love a person that loves them for who they are and never lets them forget.
“Your mom tends to have a big presence. She’s the Queen and she won't hesitate to let you know. She’s expressive so you’ll always know where you stand with her because she’ll deadass tell you. She reminds me of comfort like she’ll spend a lot of money on her home & furniture. She tends to show you love by praising you & always providing you with some form of entertainment. She might’ve praised you too much so you’ll struggle with building internal self esteem seeking external validation when you feel threatened. Your mom tends to be the queen or the social butterfly which helps you learn how to make & keep friends.”
Moon in Virgo
Virgo moons are detailed, calculated, conscious, and opinionated. This moon sign is great at problem solving whether it’s theirs or someone else’s. Due to this, they’re able to emotionally regulate themselves and stay calm even in the most extreme situations. Similar to Taurus moon, this would be another great moon sign in the human service, psychology, and mental health fields. That being said, Virgo moons need to learn everything or everything is not a problem to solve. They should learn to allow others to ask for help first before they volunteer their services or assistance. They tend to overextend themselves leaving very little for themselves or criticize themselves more and give grace or even excuse others faults. Acts of service are most pleasing to Virgo moons and people who remember those small details about them to surprise them later.
“Your mom may not have always been available when you needed her. You tend to feel like you’re more of an adult than her. She tends to be extremely critical over your behavior and decisions. She might have scrutinized your appearance, tendencies, intellectual abilities, athleticism, honestly anything. She has high expectations that you can’t seem to meet. She seems to hold back from jumping in headfirst and let situations play out before actually committing. She is pretty methodical in how she solves problems, she’s mentally thorough. They think through things before giving you a response. That's how they tend to stay ahead of the curve.”
Moon in Libra
Libra moons are artistic, just, optimistic, charismatic, social butterflies, and hopeless romantics at heart. Libra moons seek harmony and balance in all of life’s situations. They are lovers at heart which inspires them in love and to seek fairytale romances. Libra moons are very optimistic in love and as a result can experience a lot of heartbreak because their love will overshadow potential danger. Libra moons have a taste for the finer things in life and will splurge on guilty pleasures they can’t live without. This placement I notice tends to be a foodie especially if paired with Taurus placements. Self care is also very important to Libra moons so whatever they do to make themselves feel good, they make it a routine. Libra moons' appearance is very important to them and they will go to great lengths to maintain it because that's what makes them feel good. They are the epitome of “when you look good, you feel good”.
“The easiest way to describe this relationship is you had to fall in line. You may have been treated as an equal from very young age. Your mom could have had very clear standards and expectations from you as a child. There's certain duties and roles she always assumes that you’ll fulfill. She could’ve been emotionally dismissive so your emotional needs weren’t tended to properly. She never really comforted you when something happened to you she could’ve brushed it off. or said something along the lines of “it’ll all get better in the end.” You tend to put the emotions of everyone else’s before yours because you were made to feel like your emotions didn’t matter.”
Moon in Scorpio
Scorpio moons are emotionally reserved, intuitively aware, deep, intense, and trustworthy. This moon sign will tell you what they want you to know and nothing further. They are very good at conveying the emotions they want you to believe they are feeling at any given time. What they’re truly feeling may not be so obvious unless you’re close enough to understand their rhythms. Similar to Gemini moon, they possess a lot of information and are also very specific about who knows what. Scorpio moons keep a very small circle so if any of their business gets out, they most likely already know who told. That being said, if you’re close to a Scorpio moon consider yourself blessed because they can be very selective with befriending people or allowing themselves to be that close. This moon sign similar to Virgo moons may have a special connection or attachment to animals. Scorpio moons definitely trust animals way more than they trust people. Some Scorpio moons would prefer to be surrounded by animals instead of people so this is a great placement to work with animals in animal science or veterinary fields. To show your support to a Scorpio moon, show them you care and they can trust you. Trust is if not the most vital thing for a Scorpio Moon. Betrayal isn’t easily forgiven. Also be the kind of reliable person that they know will be there for them through anything.
“There tends to be a disconnect here so your mom either wasn’t present for whatever reason or there's a lack of trust in your relationship. She can be too close to you when you need space and too distant when you need her close. She may be out of tune with your emotional health and rhythm. You tend to hide your emotions from her because you can’t connect with her. It’s difficult for her to understand your varying needs for closeness and distance. She could’ve had a secret emotional life that controls how you now deal with your emotions. She may have a way of getting what she wants. This mom is very big on ‘Keeping Up with the Joneses’ so they are doing something in order to show that they have as much money as other people even if they can’t afford it.”
Moon in Sagittarius
Sagittarius moons are morally or faith inclined, profound, outspoken, outgoing, energetic, jovial, and spontaneous. This moon sign views emotions as spiritual experiences meant to teach them about themselves or life. Like most fire placements, Sagittarius moons are very passionate specifically about their vision and goals. They will constantly work at their craft and soak up all the knowledge they can. Similar to Gemini moons, Sagittarius moons can be very helpful to people around because they always have interesting facts to share or advice based on actual research. Sagittarius moons are constantly soul searching and wanting to discover more about themselves and their environment. Sagittarius moons tend to be religious or have strong faith that they believe in. Sagittarius moons can experience being both the student and teacher throughout their life. Sagittarius moons love those that are free spirits like them and know how to appreciate the deeper meanings in life at the same time. If your balance matches theirs, they will value you in their life.
“There's a need for free that comes with a Sagittarius moon. Your mom carries that same need for freedom. She may come off as hypocritical because she holds you to standards that she can’t uphold for herself. She tends to plan for the future. When you were younger she would say something and it would turn out exactly how she said it. She could’ve been eccentric either a free spirit or extremely religious or just a wanderer (lost soul). Sometimes she seems far away or aloof because she lives in her mind. I find that with Sag moons your parent allows you to address them by name it’s an informal relationship.”
Moon in Capricorn
Capricorn moons are ambitious, emotionally insecure, productive, and logical. Earth moon signs feel their emotions physically. It’s especially important for these moon signs to develop their own connection to their body and nature. Similar to Virgo moons, Capricorn moons can process their emotions pretty objectively and practically like it’s another task on their list to simply be done. The need for success in material life may be more dominant for Earth placements, but their prominence should lie in nature, health, and overall wellness. This moon sign is prone to choosing a career early in life or knowing their purpose early on even if they struggle finding their way there. Most Capricorn moons have been through situations in their childhood that didn’t allow them room to express how they felt about what was happening or going on so as adults, they tend to subconsciously repress how they feel. Similar to Virgo moons, they tend to consider other people’s feelings before their own leaving them with a shorter end of the stick most times. Capricorn moons need to be surrounded by those that believe in reciprocity and will not just let them carry the entire emotional load.
“Those with their moon in Capricorn are prone to having a mom who is generally not emotionally open. She could come off as pretty uptight or extremely career oriented. Your childhood environment could’ve been unstable so you learned to protect yourself from a young age. Family & financial security is something she values and will continue to focus on. She tends to make you feel guilty. She won’t come right out and say anything, but she’ll make you feel guilty. She’s a hard worker & sets out to attain high goals. She also pushes that on to you. She wants you to achieve as much as you can and pursue a promising career. She might soften with age (around 60) and become more of a personal cheerleader.
Moon in Aquarius
Aquarius moons are emotionally selective, convivial, friendship oriented, progressive, eloquent. Aquarius moons are those friendly people that just want people to get along and for everyone to feel happy. Aquarius placements, especially moons get a negative rep for being “detached” when really they simply do not feel comfortable showing emotion in front of those they do not trust or do not value in their life. This is also usually the result of their feelings being invalidated, overshadowed, or not deemed important enough by others. Just like how people say Earth signs can be boring, Air signs don’t just show their emotional side for anyone. You have to deserve them in a way. Similar to Leo moons, Aquarius moons tend to have that one passion that is lifelong and never dies for them. Their career may or may not reflect this, but they will always spend their free time enjoying it.
“You’ve been emotionally mature and strong from young so you might be a little detached or distant from your mom. You weren’t coddled like most kids are. Your mom could’ve been actively present in every area of your life except when it comes to emotions. She’s not good with dealing with emotional outbursts. You guys can talk, but she may not be your shoulder to cry on. The relationship is more like a friendship. She probably points out your weaknesses as a way to push you forward. Your mother could’ve paid more attention to large groups (friends, church, philanthropy, etc.) rather than your emotional needs. She can teach you how to help others without looking for something in return.”
Moon in Pisces
Pisces moons are creative idealists, psychic, empathetic, and spiritually sensitive day dreamers. This moon sign, similar to Cancer, is not afraid to feel their emotions, but can drown in their emotions and allow pessimism or a victim mindset to take over. It would do Pisces moons to not get overwhelmed at everyday situations because it can lead to them shutting down. Pisces moons have a lot of goals and aspirations that they constantly think about. Their dreams keep them up at night and they fixate ways to achieve during the day. Pisces moons may have grown up in a home that was turbulent or had a lot of tension and conflict. As children it was important for them to find ways to channel their imagination to improve their surroundings. You’ll find that most of them enjoy writing, reading, or creative art as a hobby. This moon sign is especially sensitive so validate their emotions and how they feel because they’re always being put down for feeling as strongly as they do. Make your connection to them a safe space and do what needs to be done to ensure their vulnerability.
“Your mom tends to be more on the positive, sensitive, psychic side. She may have had an emotional strength that wasn’t always obvious, but helped her overcome a lot. If your mom is negatively aspected in this sign it can represent some sort of addiction that your mom faced. She may have been a dreamer sometimes telling you things that wouldn’t come to fruition. She may have been wrapped up in her own world and surmounting, but sometimes you wish you didn’t have to be so strong all the time. You may have learned to escape reality and form your own little world from a young age.”
